Resurfacing Brown’s Ferry Rd

2/22/2023 – 12:57 PMThe City of Madison would like to inform residents that as of Friday, February 24th crews will begin resurfacing Brown’s Ferry Road from Gillespie Road to Balch Road. This work will take approximately 1 week, weather permitting.

We ask motorists to be aware of this work and proceed with caution.

May 5th update: Balch/Gillespie Roundabout construction will start May 17th.

City of Madison Council Districts to Host Town Hall on Balch/Gillespie Roundabout
 
The City of Madison has bid and approved the construction of the Balch/Gillespie roundabout and will host a town hall meeting to discuss construction as well as project status. The meeting will be held on the evening of April 22nd at 5:30 pm at City Hall. Any interested residents are welcome to attend. The meeting will be available virtually, as well as in person in the City Hall Council Chambers.
 
The Town Hall will be lead by District 1 Councilwoman Maura Wroblewski, District 2 Councilwoman Connie Spears, and District 7 Councilman John Seifert. The City of Madison’s Director of Engineering Gary Chynoweth will also be in attendance to answer questions from citizens. This meeting will help residents understand the layout of the roundabout, construction times, and traffic control plans the city will utilize during the required shutdown of the intersection. Attendees will have a chance to learn the City’s plans for the project and ask any questions they may have for officials.

Hughes Road Widening and Repaving (March, 2021)

The City of Madison would like to inform residents that paving along Hughes Road is scheduled to start March 15, 2021. Lane configurations are expected to change throughout the paving process. Hughes Road North and South bound traffic will be restricted from making left turns at Eastview Drive and Plaza Blvd during the paving process.

We ask motorists and pedestrians be aware of this roadwork and plan alternate travel routes as necessary.

Eastview Re-Striping (May, 2018)
The City of Madison would like to inform residents that as of Monday May 21, 2018 re-striping of Eastview Drive will begin. Re-striping will occur from Wall Triana Highway to Hughes Road. This work will take approximately one week, weather permitting.

We also ask motorists be aware of this road work and proceed with caution.

Mill Road Bridge Construction (August, 2017)

Construction on the Mill Road Bridge continues, but should open to traffic by the end of the month.

The original plan intended for this project to be completed before the start of school, but weather has pushed that goal back. Cement has needed time to cure, and rain has been an issue.

Hughes Road Re-paving project (May, 2017)

Weather permitting; crews will begin paving over the new drainage pipe just north of Clift’s Cove under Hughes Road on May 3rd. Work will be performed between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.

The area will be closed to through traffic with partial lane closures. Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes. Please observe all work zones signs and use caution. February 17,2017 Update on Hughes Road Bridge

Work to reinforce the slopes on the west side of the Hughes Rd overpass is 80% complete. Crews are currently working on the sidewalk & restoring electrical utilities. Paving will commence next week. Weather permitting, the project should be completed within 3 weeks reopening the westernmost southbound lane to normal traffic.

Citywide Street Sweeping (February, 2017)

Beginning the week of February 6th, street sweeping will begin on the roadways shown on the linked map. Weather permitting, this street sweeping will be concluded in 2 weeks. We ask that residents of these streets refrain from parking on or placing any items in the roadway between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Trash receptacles and recycle bins should be placed behind the curb during this time for your weekly pickup.

The street sweeping program is aimed at improving the quality of storm water runoff. The City of Madison would like to remind citizens to keep leaves, grass clippings, trash and fertilizers away from storm drains. Never dump motor oil, chemicals, pet waste, dirty or soapy water, or other substances down a storm drain.

PRESS RELEASE Hughes Road from Gooch Lane to Eastview Drive

Madison, Al January 18, 2017

The City of Madison, in coordination with Madison Utilities, would like to inform residents that beginning today, Wednesday, January 18, 2017 crews will be upgrading water and sewer infrastructure along Hughes Road from Gooch Lane to Eastview Drive.

Construction activity along this portion of roadway will be on-going through April of 2017 and will not require the roadway to be closed, but may require intermittent lane closures.

Motorists are urged to drive with extreme caution in this area, paying special attention to road crews, signage and roadway conditions.

We appreciate your patience as we continue to improve the infrastructure within the City of Madison.

The City of Madison would like to inform residents that beginning Friday, January 13, 2017 crews will be performing utility construction at the intersection of Hughes Road and Gillespie Road. This work, which will require temporary lane closures, is expected to be complete by Friday, January 20, 2017.

We ask that motorists be aware of this construction and follow all traffic control directions.

PRESS RELEASE Southbound Lane of Hughes Road Overpass

Madison, AL, November 17, 2016

The City of Madison would like to notify residents that the right lane of the Hughes Road Overpass traveling southbound will be closed to traffic beginning Thursday, November 17, 2016.

The City has been closely monitoring this overpass due to shifting of the earth which has caused cracks in the pavement, creating potentially unsafe conditions. This closure is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of our residents.
